Musical Memory Boxes

Picture
Members of the Pullen Day Centre worked with artists Iris Musel and Sarah Lott to create individual musical boxes based on key elements of their life story. Each session started with a story or poetry which some of the group read out, and singing took place throughout each session. Everyone chose a tune for their musical box.

Taking a topic per week, participants explored favourite places they have lived, creating a little light-up house to go inside their box; important people in their life, who they modelled clay; outdoor spaces they enjoy, making a mini terrarium. They also made papier mache bowls filled with sweets wrapped in their memories. They then decorated the outside of their boxes, which then went on tour before being returned to their delighted owners at a celebration event.
